ICS problems between 2 PC's (XP) using firewire

Hello, I am new to networking and I am trying to share my cable internet between to PC's running XP using a firewire. I was able to get the client computer online using IE7 for non-secure site browsing but was unable to browse secure sites. So i attempted to find another browser and no other browsers would connect other than IE7. So i deceded to upgrade to IE8 so that i would at least have tabs, and now I cannot browse at all. None of my browsers can even get to google.com anymore. strange thing is, the Lan connection shows up on the client computer and says its connected. and the client computer also can connect to the itunes store. but not to any browser web pages. I also wanted to be able to share files and i cannot get the network places to display either of the connected computers (host or client). i did run these commands on the host computer of this is of any help:

Re: ICS problems between 2 PC's (XP) using firewire

Now let's see the following from each of the computers, you didn't run the full IPCONFIG /ALL command.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands.

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: ICS problems between 2 PC's (XP) using firewire

Well, it appears good.

Can you ping each way by computer name? Have you disabled ALL firewalls to see if that helps?

Re: ICS problems between 2 PC's (XP) using firewire

I have turned off all firewalls on both computers and still nothing. Also, I can ping host from host, host from client, but when i ping client from client all 4 requests time out with 100% loss of data. When i ping client from host by name, name is not recognized. When i ping client from host by IP address, i get the 4 timed out requests and 100% loss of data as shown here:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\Baka-kun>ping waldorf
Ping request could not find host waldorf. Please check the name and try again.

C:\Documents and Settings\Baka-kun>ping 192.168.0.72

Pinging 192.168.0.72 with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 192.168.0.72:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

Re: ICS problems between 2 PC's (XP) using firewire

Sounds like there's some firewall component still blocking the requests on the client to me.
