Networking...

Hey guys. Um I have one computer rite now and really wanna LAN up to another one. Networking is something that seems pretty difficult. A few questions:
What do I need?
I play online games...CS, ahem...is there some way I can have both computers able to play online @ the same time?
Wireless good? Explain why plz...
Any other info would be helpful :)

Thanx guys.

How are you connected online?

If you have cable modem or dsl line, I would suggest a 4-5 port Cable/DSL modem with an integrated switch. This will connect to your ISP and appear to them to be one machine with a process called Network Address Translation (NAT). On the "inside" you can connect up to 253 machines by chaining together networking hubs or switches. If you only have 2 machines, you don't have to worry about it.

Wireless is great if you have a laptop and want to move around but be online. However, Wireless units are a little more expensive than wired and so are the NIC (Network Interface Cards).

Here is what I use to do what you're talking about:

HTH!

Excatly what I was Thinking Cyber!:D Hooking up two PCs shoulding be too difficult. What OS are you running on both machines?

But if you wan to get a little bit more extravagant use one of your PCs as the server (which needs two NICs) that connects to the Internet with your modem and your other PC and acts as your gateway for your other PC. Setup a little workgroup and away you go.

But I would just do what Cyber suggested.
