[SOLVED] Connecting Network Hard Drives via a Switch

Hi all
I'm after a bit of advice, due to space and number of sockets available I'm playing around with my network to move to NAS drives to another room.

The current basic layout of the network is:
Netgear DG834T Router:
Port 1 goes to main Pc
Port 2 goes to PS3
Port 3 goes to Lacie NAS
Port 4 goes to bedroom PC

What I want to do is:
Port 1 goes to main Pc
Port 2 goes to PS3
Port 3 goes to a switch in bedroom, of which
.......Port 1 goes to bedroom Pc
......(Port 2 goes to Lacie NAS - not yet connected, still on DG834T)
.......Port 3 goes to Buffalo NAS

I need to get a new, faster switch, but just tested configuration with a netgear FS104 10M/bit switch, but I don't like what i'm seeing.

The main pc can see both NAS drives and the bedroom Pc, but the bedroom Pc is uanble to see both NAS drives, yet can see the main Pc.

View from main Pc:
Bedroom Pc
Router
Lacie NAS
Buffalo NAS
Lacie NAS (media server)
Buffalo NAS (media server)

View from bedroom Pc
Router
Main Pc
Lacie NAS (media server)
Buffalo NAS (media server)

I am unable to map either NAS to the bedroom Pc. However in the original configuration without the switch the bedroom Pc can see the Lacie NAS and it can be mapped.

Both Pc's use Windows Vista 32 bit with SP1 installed.

I hope that makes sense and someone can help
Matt

Re: Connecting Network Hard Drives via a Switch

Well, there may be an issue with a 10mbit only switch, some ports won't switch to 10mbit. A switch should be transparent here, so I'd get a 100mbit switch first, it should work fine.

Re: Connecting Network Hard Drives via a Switch

Thanks, I'm hoping that's what it is. Will get a new switch sometime tomorrow, probably the d-link DGS-1005D 5 port gigabit switch.
