Re: Internet Issues
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit). Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.
On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt: Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key: PING 206.190.60.37 PING yahoo.com NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Internet Issues
Motherboard:EVGA nForce 780i SLI MCP
OS: Windows XP 64 bit ISP: AT&T Modem: Motorola MSTATEA Routers:Linksys WRT54GS v2 Firmware v4.71.1, Hyperwrt 2.1b1 + Thibor15c Linksys BEFSR41 v3 Firmware 1.05.00 Diagram: ![]() The Modem gets its internet from the phone line and then I ran an Ethernet cable from the modem to the Internet port on the wireless router. Ports 1 & 2 on the wireless router lead to a computer and an Xbox. Both of which have no issues. I have 2 laptops connected to wireless Internet on the router and both of those have no issues. I have an Ethernet cable from port 4 on the wireless router to port 4 on the wired router. IT DOES NOT GO INTO THE INTERNET PORT. Ports 1 & 2 on the wired router both run my two computers. The internet works fine on Computer 2 the only system with any problems is my machine. Static DHCP is enabled on the wireless router and those are all set properly, no overlaps or anything. DHCP is disabled on the wired router and it is not configured to connect to the internet. My wireless router is configured to log-in to the internet with my username and password. Like I stated before the internet on all the machines except mine work fine. The Issue: My computer will work fine for a few hours, then randomly the internet will not work. Networking to other computers works fine and also so does connecting to both routers. Now for the weird part. Any errors I receive from the browsers are time-out errors not errors saying I am not connected. I have tried both Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. The strangest part is anything already connected ie. Voice Chat or even online games will work fine, until the connection is closed. Once the connection is shut off by me then it will not be able to reconnect. I have to reboot to resolve this issue every time. Another strange fact is that when this happens I am able to still ping websites with the ping command. When pinging www.google.com I get about a 32ms latency. At the moment the internet is working fine. When it stops I will run those posted commands and post with another computer. Last edited by bigjay517; 01-28-2009 at 01:11 PM. |

Re: Internet Issues
Well, it would appear that something running on the machine is causing the issue.
I'd consider disabling groups of startup applications using MSCONFIG and see if you can isolate the offending application.

Re: Internet Issues
Well I disabled everything unnecessary and no luck. I did notice two times that my connection started having issues when I was loading a video on youtube. I do not know exactly what that means if it could be Adobe Flash player or something like that. I can post a hijackthis log if you would like.

Re: Internet Issues
I figured it out. The QoS Service on my router had a major bug. I just reset all settings and disabled the service. I am pretty sure this will fix it as I have had no problems for 2 days.

Re: Internet Issues
That's a first, I haven't seen QoS cause oddball issues like that! Thanks for letting us know, adds to the knowledge base.
