Re: networking a non pc based dvr system
We'd have to be really smart to help here, since there are no details about any of the equipment or environment. Also, exactly what you intend to accomplish would be very useful...

Re: networking a non pc based dvr system
DVR's that support remote access usually have an Ethernet port, you then use your web browser or a supplied client utility to gain remote control using a computer on the network, if said network has Internet access then you can be as remote as you want from a pc anywhere. Functionality will depend on the speed of the connection, broadband is best.
If your DVR doesn't have an Ethernet port for remote access then hopefully it has a conventional VGA video output and conventional PS/2 or USB for keyboard/mouse connection, if so you can use a KVM over IP solution such as http://www.blackbox.com/Store/Detail...-x-1/KVIP1001A If the DVR doesn't have reagular PC ports and no Ethernet port then the DVR probably wasn't intended to have remote control capability. |

Re: networking a non pc based dvr system
http 49000 is an odd port number, I would have expected port 80. ( I know enough about firewalls to be dangerous)
Anyway what happens if you put the computer on the same side of the firewall and set it up on the same subnet, can you make this all work? If everything works on the same subnet then the issue is the firewall. |

Re: networking a non pc based dvr system
I have about 6 years experience installing and networking DVR's. DHCP is possible with them, but very time consuming and a major headache. Easiest solution is to go with statics for simple remote viewing. Just my 2 cents worth though.
