aquiring network address... FOREVER!
hello im having some network issues in a very confined location. i was wondering if you could help me out.
PRELUDE: GEAR: F5D7001 BELKIN WIFI PCI Card (correct drivers) TEW-443PI TRENDnet WIFI PCI Card (correct Drivers) WG111T NETGEAR WIFI USB adaptor (correct Drivers) MOBO: Nvidia nForce 680i LT Additional Drivers: MoBo came with a Network Awareness Ultility and driver for onboard NIC (wired 10/100) THE MEAT: So the story goes i just bought this build it arrived yesterday and i assembled it with the TEW-443PI (which was working last week in a previous build) and installed XP SP2. Install various drivers and attempt to get some apps from the internet. thats when i realized that my network connection had full signal but stayed at "aquiring network address" status. so i decided to re-enter the ssid and network key a few times disabling and re-enabling the device. i also tried an uninstall of the software and the hardware then re-install and i still come up with the same problem. So with nothing else working i decide to get out an older card i had (the F5D7001). after uninstalling the driver and utility from the TEW-443PI i installed the new card and driver. and wouldn't you know it same problem. i also tried changing the PCI slot the card resides in. Now heres the kicker: I decide to use the USB adaptor and it works great! so im not really sure what the problem is and im hoping someone can give me some help. some other maybe useful information is that Im using a Linksys WRT160N Router with WPA2 Personal Encryption. the rest of the PC's attached to the network, wired and Wireless, have internet connection. On the only wired PC in the house i ran the utility that came with the router and it has detected my new pc but the pc is not in the client list. THE END thanks, Coji |

Re: aquiring network address... FOREVER!
actually i seem to have fibbed. my network was available for about 4 hours on the belkin card when it mysteriously decided there were no networks. after trying to reconnect to my network i come to realize that its not so much that there aren't any networks (two are visible) its that the belkin card refuses to connect to them. so of course i jump for my trendnet card (after correctly uninstalling the belkin) toss that sucker in there and promptly recieve the aquiring network address message stated in my first post. i have managed to get the trendnet to connect to the network but its running at about a 56k speed and im getting quite fed up with crawling the internet rather than surfing it.
all i can think is that my motherboard hates wifi. i did have a sort of out there hunch though: my motherboard has a power channel for the video card (manual says its for better performance) but im not sure if the power channel is isolated to a specific port. could that affect a wireless card? the wireless card is definantly not PCIx16 like the video card slots on my MOBO so i dont really know. anyway any help would be great ill be working on it and checking back when i have the chance. |
