Help! Internet works after repair for 30 seconds then stops.. very annoying..
Hello,
My internet has been working fine for many months until yesterday out of the blue it stopped working. I have tried everything from having a technician from my ISP come have a look to many websites for advice and have found no solution to my problem. Tried all the regular stuff, like ipconfig release and renew, modem reset, modem swap, etc. My computer can ping to my modem and the ISP can ping my modem but I can't surf the internet at all. I am just recieving NO packets. How am I able to post this? Well If I right-click and repair my internet connection it works fine for about 30 seconds (or less) and then cuts out again. Windows XP D-Link DFE-538TX PCI Ethernet Adapter No router Firewall turned off Help please! What could be going on? |

Re: Help! Internet works after repair for 30 seconds then stops.. very annoying..
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit). Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.
On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt: Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key: PING 206.190.60.37 PING yahoo.com NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Help! Internet works after repair for 30 seconds then stops.. very annoying..
ISP = Eastlink
Broadband Modem & Model # = Motorola SURFBoard SB5101 Connection = Wired Windows Version = XP Media Center Edition, Service Pack 3 Internet Browser = Windows Internet Explorer ISP technician came and said the problem was with my computer. He was able to communicate with the modem using my computer, and the ISP was able to ping my modem. He said it was something on my computer blocking the connection. My connection status says I am connected but I am not receiving any packets. If I right-click and "repair" the connection I am able to access website for approximately 30 seconds before the connection stops working. Below is the information you have asked: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. Re: Help! Internet works after repair for 30 seconds then stops.. very annoying..
TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2/SP3.
Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands: Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands. Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog Reboot the machine. If this doesn't fix it, try booting in Safe Mode with Networking and see if you can connect in that mode.

Hi John,
Thanks for your replies. I tried the first two commands, still didn't fix my problem. Also I couldn't connect through Windows Safe Mode either. Any other advice? |

To me, the assigned IP (24.89.250.246) being on a different subnet (x.x.250.x vs. x.x.248.x) than the default gateway (24.89.248.1) seems interesting. I'm curious to see the results.
