Network wireless laptop with workgroup

We are just venturing into the world of laptops and wireless connectivity at work. Purchased a Dell Vostro 1310. Our network is a workgroup that runs through a central router with a static ip address. I have established the wireless network connection using that static ip address on the Dell and have internet access. I have also established a VPN that connects to our server (IBM iSeries 400). I'm unable to see the other computers in the workgroup. What should I do?

The default operation of most VPN clients is to disable any other network connections when the VPN connection tunnel is active. Also, some VPN clients will get in the way even when the VPN connection isn't active.
