networking a network printer
I have a xerox workcentre 24 color network printer it has a network plug on the back, my question is does my network need to be tcp/ip or can I use netbeui as the network protocal im just setting up my logical network now it does not exist yet so I am torn between tcp/ip or netbuei I am only helping some people to set up there network once then I wont be around to help them again so I want a simple network protocal so that if they add any future computers it is easy for them to do so with out understanding the complex tcp/ip protocal I do not have a server this is going to be a workgroup setting
thanks |

Re: networking a network printer
It must be TCP/IP, and that's the standard anyway. NETBEUI is an obsolete non-routable protocol that is optional on XP and totally missing in any form from Vista and the upcoming Windows 7.
TCP/IP is the way to go here, and it's really not complicated to use. I'm not sure who convinced you that TCP/IP was complicated, but they have done you a disservice!
