NAT table flooding
Just recently my SMCWBR14-G2 has been locking up whenever a program opens up alot of connections. For instance when I start up WoW and it needs to use the built in bittorrent client to update, the update will go fine. But afterwards the router will lock up and have to be power cycled. Even after power cycling, the NAT tables will still get flooded on the port that I did the port forwarding to. Only if I disable the port forwarding, then does the NAT table stop getting hammered.
Coincidentally this all started when I built my new rig. I don't know if that should have any effect. My old rig could do the WoW bittorrent updates just fine without locking up the router. I also remember using regular Bittorrent on my old system didn't lock the router up. So as a test, I started up bittorrent on the new rig with the same settings as the old system. Limited global connections and half tcp open connections to 60 and 25 respectively, way lower than what the WoW update client has and it still locks up the router. Downloads always go fine but the router always locks up after the data transfer has completed. The NAT table will go up to around 200 then the router will lock up. Is the router just getting old? It's been a little more than 2 and a half years since I've started using it. Or is it a PC side problem? Or juts coincidence that the router decides it's gonna crap out right when I built a new rig? |

Re: NAT table flooding
If we start making exceptions, we open the floodgates. There is no easy way to allow some uses and shutdown others, it creates a moderating nightmare.
