Cannot ping/connect to laptop
I have a user in this building who I cannot ping at all. Outgoing connections from his laptop are fine, but nothing incoming works. We discovered this problem when he attempted to host a netmeeting session.
This is in a corporate environment and there is definately nothing firewall related causing this issue. He is using a static IP VIA DHCP reservation, but even when plugging into another subnet it still wouldn't work. It does however work over VPN. All settings on the windows firewall were checked and everything seems fine. No ICMP echo, etc. are being blocked. The one thing that I noticed on his laptop's sys log was this message (note: I purposely put the x's there): Event Type: Warning Event Source: DnsApi Event Category: None Event ID: 11197 Date: 1/9/2009 Time: 3:13:53 PM User: N/A Computer: x Description: The system failed to update and remove host (A) resource records (RRs) for network adapter with settings: Adapter Name : {57CDD45D-4480-4D50-B9D2-FA7DC80F1427} Host Name : Primary Domain Suffix : x DNS server list : 10.x.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 10.x.x.x Sent update to server : 10.x.x.x IP Address(es) : 10.x.x.x The reason the update request failed was because of a system problem. For specific error code, see the record data displayed below. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Data: 0000: 51 27 00 00 I've tried to delete his existing DNS records but that doesn't seem to be the problem. Any ideas? |
