[SOLVED] Packet loss every 60 seconds
I am experiencing some packet loss at what seems to be exactly 60 second intervals. I had originally though it was a hardware issue, so I replaced my Ethernet adapter, and my wireless router.
I tried plugging a LAN cable directly into my router, as well as directly into the Cable internet modem, and the problem still happens. Here is the Make and model of the current wireless adapter/router I am using. Router: Netgear RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Router WNDR3300 Adapter: Rangemax Dual Band Wireless-N USB Adapter WNDA3100 I updated the drivers on both the adapter and the router. I updated the firmware on the router. I have Comcast cable internet. I contacted them, and had them run some tests and they said that it was fine from their end. I do not seem to have the same problem on my Macbook, so I believe the problem is with this computer. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate edition. I have checked the power settings on the ethernet adapter and made sure to uncheck the box for windows to turn it off to save power. I have attached a copy of the packet test, you can see that I have fairly good ping times, except for the big spikes or timeouts every 60 pints. Any help would be much appreciated. |

Re: Packet loss every 60 seconds
Make SURE you're only using either Windows or the Netgear wireless client to manage the connection. This is symptomatic of wireless clients fighting for control of the adapter.
Another issue occurs with Vista due to the way the wireless works, here's one suggested fix from a game forum: VISTA Wireless Networking Lag Spike Fix

Re: Packet loss every 60 seconds
Thanks!
The WLAN optimizer I downloaded from the page you linked seemed to have resolved the problem. I wish Microsoft would have more info on this instead of having to get it from a gaming site. Thanks again, |

Re: Packet loss every 60 seconds
I guess the gamers are the ones that find this stuff!
