wireless with satellite

Hello, I have a situation that I cannot figure out....We have satellite internet where the modem is in the garage about 150 ft from the house (Due to trees around the home). Previously, we ran a wire from the garage into the house to connect to the wireless router to stationary pc. However, I would like to eliminate the wire to the house and simpy take the wireless router to the garage and hook up to the modem out there with wireless to both computers in the house. Would this work? No wires between the satellite modem/router to the house? Please help me out on this...was actually suggested by a clerk at a local office store...Thank you for any input.

Re: wireless with satellite

You will need a wireless router in the garage, probably a directional hi-gain antenna connected to it, and a wireless bridge in the house, and that may also require a hi-gain antenna.

If there are obstructions between the house and the garage, you may have problems, but line-of-sight should be no problem.

Hawking Tech has a number of products that will help you increase your wireless range. The root page is Hawking Hi-Gain™ WiFi Range Extending Products.

Some of the more interesting products are this Hawking [HSB2] Hi-Gain WiFi Signal Booster, which can be used on either end of a wireless connection to boost the signal power.

Another way to increase your signal strength is by the use of hi-gain antennas. You can choose from omni-directional or directional models, here are a some examples.

Hawking [HAI7SIP] Hi-Gain 7dBi Omni-Directional Antenna

Hawking [HAI15SC] Hi-Gain 15dBi Corner Antenna

[HAO14SD] Outdoor Hi-Gain 14dBi Directional Antenna Kit

This is just a sample of available products, many people have hi-gain antennas with similar specifications, but I haven't seen any other suppliers of signal boosters.

Re: wireless with satellite

Beefing up the signal should help a bunch.
