Wireless connection barely works
i have a dell inspirion 1000 and i use a wireless connection for internet....we recently just got a new router and my connection says "excellent" and at a speed of 54 mbps. But even though it says that, it is always either connected or has limited/no connectivity....i have even plugged the internet router cable into the backk of my computer and it has a speed of 100 mbps and still has bad connectivity.
I have read many previous posts and tried but none seem to help. my brother also has a dell laptop, and his connection works amazing. i am the only one in the house that can handle computer problem and i am even stumped. Can someone please help me?? |

Re: Wireless connection barely works
Interesting problem. You might see if resetting the card helps to fix it. Get to Network Connections in Control Panel and then Disable/Enable wireless adapter.
If that doesn't work, then you might see if there is another program running your wireless connection. A lot of times, Dell allows another program to be set to run the internet. You can tell if this is happening to you if, when you go to select a wireless network from the windows status bar, it gives you a message similar to "Windows is not currently set as the provider of wireless support." If neither of these works, post back and we can try something else. |

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog Reboot the machine. After that, connect with a cable and post the following. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command: Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Wireless connection barely works
Looks fine to me. With that wired connection, let's see this.
Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here. The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like: If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different! and your IP will be disguised. Copy/paste that link here. Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.
