100mbps to 1000mbps, Bandwidth or speed?
Hi All
i been searching the internet for few days but still dont get the answer. 100mbps upgrade to 1000mbps is upgrade of bandwidth or speed? example: If currently my network connection utilization is only 30% and transferring of 4GB file is 20minute (example only) upgrade to 1GB connection and utilization left 3% but will this upgrade reduce the file transfering time to 2min? or only reduction of utilization to 3% but the file transfer time still 20min? please do share with me if you found any source/article.. thanks |

Re: 100mbps to 1000mbps, Bandwidth or speed?
Network Utilization at 3% on a gigabyte link would result in the same transfer speed as 30% on a 100mbit link. It's simply a ratio of link utilization vs. maximum bandwidth.
The upgrade is an upgrade in bandwidth, since you now have 10 times the available bandwidth. Network utilization will depend on the slowest node as well as the protocols and turn-around delays inherent in most of them. Stuff like window sizes will impact network utilization figures as well as apparent bandwidth. I don't have any article references.
