Vista in combination with GTA 2
Ahh I've been trying to figure it out for days now but I just can't find the solution, neither on the net nor in my options anywhere on my PC...
For the short summary : When I try to make a Grand Theft Auto 2 game, no one can see me, when I try to join someone elses game, the network window crashes.. this is all just on LAN. Can anyone tell me what to do to make an older game like GTA 2 not crash while joining in Vista ? Long story : I'm running Vista, and on any other Vista PC in the house the symptoms are the same. If I were to create a game of GTA 2, all firewalls etc. shutdown, no other PC can see the game. Next I tried to make a GTA 2 game on a XP PC, I will see the game then, but when I try to join it the window freezes, and it restarts, as if nothing happened. I've tried countless of things, at first I thought it happened because Hamachi was interfering, same thing happens. Then I just decided to restart my PC and give it another go .. a fresh install of Vista, nothing, nothing at all was installed (except for Video drivers), not even windows updates, same thing happened. Then I tried installing the network card, no change, tried to edit all sorts of settings with the protocols, nothing happened, nothing seems to work.. can anyone tell me what causes my Vista machine to freeze when trying to join a game ? 2 XP PC's can join eachothers game so thats not the issue .. Another info item .. the problem is only when playing through LAN, when I did eventually installed hamachi again, joined a network with someone not in our network and tried to play with him filling in his hamachi IP in GTA 2 it did work, but if I try the same with someone in my own network it won't work, not when I fill in his local IP address, not when I fill in his Hamachi IP address... I'm getting quite hopeless here, please do help.. any help is appreciated. ps. I also tried an application called Game Hunter which is an IRC based progam that connects people so they can play GTA, but when I try to join someone in my network it tells me the IP im trying to join is the same as my IP so it will try to locally join the network ... which gives me the same problem again. |
