[SOLVED] Can't connect to download.microsoft.com

Hi.

My problem is that I can't connect to download.microsoft.com, and therefore, can't download and install new updates for Windows Update.

I can access any other site online. I'm on a wireless network with two computers. One computer is an XP, wired to a Linksys router. The other computer, the problem computer, is connected via a wireless D-Link adapter. It's a custom build, running Vista Home Premium SP 1

I can access download.microsoft.com with the wired computer.

I've tried flushing my DNS cache, I've checked my hosts file, and there are only two entries:

127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost

I've temporarily disabled Windows Firewall, the only firewall I have except my router's firewall, which I've also tried disabling temporarily.

I've even reset my router to the factory default, all of this, to no avail.

My ISP is Comcast. I have cable internet.
My router is a Linksys WRT54G v2.2 firmware version - v4.21.1
My modem is a Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2

Any suggestions?

Re: Can't connect to download.microsoft.com

the default site for updates is: http://www.update.microsoft.com/

have you tried going there?

Re: Can't connect to download.microsoft.com

Hmm.. nope. But somehow the problem is fixed.

I moved my computer to the other room and tried to connect directly to the modem, but my onboard network adapter was having driver issues.

Eventually, I ended up re-doing my whole network, reset the router, power-cycled the modem and router, moved the problem computer back to it's original location, and when everything was connected, I could see and download from the update and download.microsoft.com servers.

Funny.

Also, I know this wasn't a temporary problem, it's been on my to-do list for several weeks now, and I'm behind on 32 updates.

Heh, cheers.
