PC Performance degrading when networked
Dear All
I have a strange problem, when I plug the network into any pc in my network I find that the performance of PCs is degrading, to the extent that if I need to run Autocad or 3D max I have to disable my network adapter or unplug the network cable. Till now I can't find an analytical reason for this problem or the remedy for it, so would you please help me solving this problem? Thanks in advance for your sincere cooperation. |

Re: PC Performance degrading when networked
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit). Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.
On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt: Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key: PING 206.190.60.37 PING yahoo.com NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: PC Performance degrading when networked
Dear johnwill
Thanks a lot for your sooner reply; there is a little misunderstanding, that i don't suffer a performance problem with the bandwidth, i'm suffering of the PCs performance, consider this example: when a user comes early and turning his PC and try to run Autocad or office program like word, excel he suffering of slow performance to the extent that may autocad or arcgis takes 4 to 5 minutes to just run it, while if he disabled his network card in control panel ==> network connection he can run this program easily, just in a few seconds. i couldn't realize any reason for this problem, but all network adapters in my network is built-in the motherboards. does it the problem ?! |

Re: PC Performance degrading when networked
As a suggestion, you may want to look at the switch/hub and see if that may be the issue. I have seen switches/NICs fail and send constant traffic out all their port(s), which may cause the PC to spend too much time processing useless network traffic. There should be an Activity indication on the switch/hub to indicate traffic. Also if the switch is manageable, you should look at the statisics for clues.
I have seen networks clog up due to switches being misconfigured, for example turning off Spanning Tree Protocol on the switch and having the network looped somewhere, or duplex mismatches. Miswired cabling can cause odd behavior aswell, your pairing and pinning must be correct. Attached is a link for cabling reference. http://www.duxcw.com/digest/Howto/ne...ble/cable5.htm |
