Trying to setup network between Vista laptop and XP desktop
Hi
I'm trying to setup a network between my Vista Home laptop and XP desktop (via a Linksys WRT54G router). Currently I'm able to see my desktop from the network screen in Vista, but when I click on it it says error 0x80070035: the network path not found. Also, I'm unable to see the Vista laptop on the My Network Places in XP Pro. I've enabled NetBios in XP. The XP desktop is currently using Zone Alarm and Vista using Mcafee Security Centre. Even when I disable everything I can recall, including Windows Firewall, this problem doesn't appear to be settled. Worringly, I cannot seem to see any of the networked (I use a Linksys router, all those computers connected are able to access the internet, but unable to see each other) computers under /ipconfig all in the XP desktop. All it comes out are some unknowns. Please help, just spent the last 5 hrs troubleshooting to no avail! :( EDIT: I've just gotten both sides to show in the Network config in XP and Vista, however both sides are saying that the folders being shared are restricted and cannot be accessed, apart from those on Public Documents (those earmarked for public folders). Re: Trying to setup network between Vista laptop and XP desktop
You will need to turn off password protected sharing on the Vista box and either add the guest or everyone account to people who can access the share.
With regards to the XP Pro box... do you have simple file and printer sharing disabled? If so then you will need to add the user name and password that corresponds to the Vista box on the XP box to the list of users allowed to access your share. |
