So I have a cool problem. I get a 50% bandwidth loss whenever I hook up to the 'net with my router. The connection goes: cable modem => wireless router => computer. When I go straight from the cable modem, I get 16 megs/sec. However when I go through my wireless router(but still connected through cat5e) I get around 7 megs/sec. The router also has DD-WRT running on it. Any ideas how to help? I really like my wifi because it's nice and convenient, but a 50% bandwidth loss is crazy. I'm stuck and don't know what to do. Thanks for all your help. Cable modem is a Motorola Surfboard 5100 and the router is a Linksys WRT54g version 5 running DD-WRT v23 SP1 micro

Re: 50% bandwidth loss through router
are you saying your computer is still plugged into the cat5e while you are trying to use wifi? If so, unplug the cable and see if it helps. Also how far is the computer from the router? Any other wireless systems in the house, whether it be phones, home threater speakers, etc?

Re: 50% bandwidth loss through router
Have you tried this experiment with wired connections to see if this is simply a wireless issue or something about the router?

Re: 50% bandwidth loss through router
Im using the cat5e wired to the computer. There is no wifi card in the computer. I'm getting the loss through the router. If I go just straight modem to computer I clock the right rate. Anybody know how to get DD-WRT to stop trying to update itself or look so hard for other resources? I mean it's eating 9 megs of connection speed(I have a 16meg connection; I clock 7 through the router).

Re: 50% bandwidth loss through router
I think I'm going to give up..There is a place around me where I can pick up used wifi routers for $5. Played with every setting I could, set the whole thing back to defaults, etc... Thanks for the tips all!
