Using a wireless and ethernet network simultaneously
Hi there!
I have joined the forum since I need your help! I am trying to do the following: Connect to the internet via a wireless connection and at the same time connect to an ethernet connection in order to access the local network. Unfortunately when I have both connections running only the ethernet connection takes precedence and the wifi connection is idle. Hope you can guide me through some settings or software which can help me use both connections simutlanoeusly for different tasks, as explained. Thanks, Franklin P.S. I am using a windows XP SP2 machine. |

Re: Using a wireless and ethernet network simultaneously
What is connected to the wired connection? If it's a LAN to file/print servers, try leaving the Default Gateway and DNS address blank for the wired connection. All Internet traffic will go via the wireless connection.

Re: Using a wireless and ethernet network simultaneously
You mean I should go to the network settings of the connection and set Internet Protocol Properties ?
The settigns are currently set to obtain IP automatically and obtain DNS server address automatically. should I change them to manual and leave them blank? I actually tried it but : If i set ip automatically, I don't know the IP address to use and If i set ip automatically and DNS is left blank then it does not work. Thanks for any feedback P.S. Yes the ethernet connection is for printing and files, and want it only for that. Last edited by frankbalzan; 11-28-2008 at 06:03 AM. |

Re: Using a wireless and ethernet network simultaneously
What kind of service are you hoping to obtain from the local network? If they do not require DNS then leave the IP setting to obtain automatically, and set the DNS to obtain manually and leave the DNS blank,
