[SOLVED] Wireless Connection Gone
I have had a faultless wireless connection since i bought my laptop six months ago when suddenly the connection began to faulter. It started with the 'limited access' and 'local connection only' signals which would start and stop totally randomly with the connection going on and off likewise.
Sometimes it would be on for a few minutes then go off, other times it would last a few hours before deciding to lose connection. Now the connection has gone completely. In the network and sharing center it shows 'This computer-----Red X-----internet' and 'Not connected' underneath.I am not great at computers so any help in the simplest form would be great. I'm stuck! Interestingly,i can get connected directly to the modem/router but not by wireless. Also a second laptop in another room picks up the connection perfectly. (HP530 too) It seems the problem is on the laptop although i am not aware of making any changes. I am using HP530 laptop,Vista Basic and the router is a Belkin G+ Mimo. Please can someone help me? Re: Wireless Connection Gone
First step is to update the drivers on the problem laptop to the latest available on the manufacturer's support site.
Some things you can try if that doesn't work.
Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

Re: Wireless Connection Gone
I understand no.2 that's about it sorry, but the rest i have no idea how to do.
First step is to update the drivers on the problem laptop to the latest available on the manufacturer's support site. ? Some things you can try if that doesn't work. 1. For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US. ? 2. For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference. 3. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site. ? 4. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure. ? Don't know if this makes any difference but yesterday the connection was perfect but today started out with showing a connection but no web page would load until no connection showing at all as previously. I don't know. |

Re: Wireless Connection Gone
Ok, i managed to locate the belkin page (using direct cable) and updated the firmware as instructed. I also restarted the router while i was there but wireless still doesn't work. There is a 'restore factory default' on the page too but am unsure of doing this. I have the network password encrypted but will restoring alter this? I don't want to mess up the second laptop connection which is working perfectly. Thought i'd better check before i did anything.
Thanks. Last edited by toothache; 11-22-2008 at 06:59 AM. |

Re: Wireless Connection Gone
Well, you'll have to reset both connections if you restore to defaults, that's true. Since you can get to the configuration pages, why not disable encryption and MAC filtering and see if you can connect that way?

Re: Wireless Connection Gone
It's strange but i have just put back a printer i had beside the router and all is working ok as before, both connections are spot on and wireless connects faultlessly!
I don't know if this was the problem, odd if it was,but anyway it works. Just thought i'd post this incase it helps someone else out. Thanks for all the advise anyway, cheers guys.
