Losing connection for 30 secs.
Hi, I have a problem which is a huge deal for me.
I'm on Virgin Media ISP 10mb connection, I've been with them for many years and have had few problems, once or twice the connection has been bad for about a month at a time, slow speeds, packet loss etc but they've fixed any problems in the past and it's back to 0 packet loss and full speed at all times. However the last 3 weeks I've been getting disconnected from the internet, the lights are still as they are now on the modem though so my ISP says it must be on my end, but i haven't changes anything since it was perfect for so many months before this started. It gos back on by it's self after about 30 seconds on unable to connect to webpages/game server and this happens about 5 times a day. Please could anyone give me any advise on how I could try and work out what's causing this. I'm sure it's my ISPs fault but I haven't found anyone else with the same problems on ntl:hell.com or any other sites. Also I'm only using Windows firewall and no router, new modem. I felt this started happening when the nights got colder.. Many thanks |

Re: Losing connection for 30 secs.
Well, one obvious thing is to try a different computer on the connection, that will isolate it to either the computer or the connection.

Re: Losing connection for 30 secs.
Seems it is my computer.
*Got new modem *New network card *Anti virus checks *Removed anti virus software *No router *Haven't changed anything/installed anything(that i can remember) since it was fine for so long. Any more ideas to try before a reformat? Buying new hardware/reformat is the last thing i want to do now so willing to try anything!(excluding the hammer/mallet). Thanks |

Re: Losing connection for 30 secs.
Did you try your computer on a different ISP connection or try a different computer on your ISP connection? That would be the sure way to isolate it to either the computer or the network connection.

Re: Losing connection for 30 secs.
Just a update.
It was my ISP, I was hours on the phone to them with them denying it, best they could do is offer me a £1 a min help line and say to reformat pc and buy new network card. Now i haven't DC for about a week with no changes etc so it must be Virgin Media's fault. I'm so disapointed in them. Thanks for help |

Re: Losing connection for 30 secs.
The symptoms you described screamed ISP issues, so I'm not surprised.
