Post [SOLVED] Limited or no connectivity/ Unable to connect to DCHP server. Urgent Help!!!

Let me 1st thank you for taking the time to look at my thread, or tanking your curiosity for leading you on to this page. I feel right now that I want to shove my head through my monitor.

System: Intel E8400 3.0ghz processor, 4g of ZA ram, Gigabyte S-series motherboard... with a Windows XP Home Edition OS, with servicepack3. I built it and its been running smooth as anything for the last 2 months, with me constantly getting the updates for Microsoft. I mainly use this system for gaming and I need to get back on my fix =( Please Help!

Problem: I am using a Linksys Wireless-G usb network adapter with a Linksys router. I cannot connect to the internet on this computer, while 3 other computers on the same router are working fine. I am using Windows as my network monitor. I get the error "Limited or no connectivity" whenever I’m on my computer. I have the computer, disabling my firewalls, system restoring it, repairing the connection via windows repair when the error "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing your IP address", and I’ve also disconnected and reconnected to the network several times. I tried renewing my connection through Run>CMD, ipconfig/all, ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew and the error "No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has its media disconnected. An error occurred while renewing interface Wireless Network Connection 2: unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out." then thinking maybe if I uninstall Linksys wireless adapter and reinstall it, it would work (even though I use Windows XP networking) so when i go to uninstall it i get the error "The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be launched. The system cannot find the file specified" I been doing my research and have not been able to solve my problem, I also read that Bit Torrents screw up things of this nature, I do not have one on the systems I am having problems with, however I believe my brothers computer does have one on it, yet his computer isn’t having problems. even when he computer is off I still can get mine to connect.

Any help would be deeply appreciated. And sorry for butchering the english language, im horrible at spelling. Thx again =)

Re: Limited or no connectivity/ Unable to connect to DCHP server. Urgent Help!!!!

hello alomose,

1. make sure it's set to otain ip add automatically(unless it's static IP). to do this right click on wireless network connection icon(in network connections window) then go to "properites" then highlight internet protocol tcp/ip and click on properties. make sure to set it to "obtain ip add automatically and also the DNS server.

2. make sure the WEP is correct as to limited or no connectivity mostly caused by incorrect encryption key used. try disconnecting from the wireless network then try reconnecting and make sure to use the correct WEP(that is if it's a secured connection).

we'll keep posted.

Re: Limited or no connectivity/ Unable to connect to DCHP server. Urgent Help!!!!

note: back up files first.save files that you don't wanna lose. best thing to do before uninstalling and reinstalling programs.

try update install shield.
once done try if you can reinstall the wireless adapter software.

Re: Limited or no connectivity/ Unable to connect to DCHP server. Urgent Help!!!!

I followed your link and am stuck on

C. Search for the installation file. The typical names for installation files are setup.exe, update.exe, installer.exe, etc.

am I looking for just the Linksys files or is it PC instalation files, if so where would these be I have no idea. If you could verbally help guide me through where it might be I will buy you a Russian Bride, Привет!

-If i dont respond back thier might be some down time.

Re: Limited or no connectivity/ Unable to connect to DCHP server. Urgent Help!!!!

after backing up your files, just uninstall install shield. probably located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield. after removing try installing the linksys software.

Re: Limited or no connectivity/ Unable to connect to DCHP server. Urgent Help!!!!

Check the linkspeed. If it is set to autodetect, set it to 10mbps full duplex. If that doesn't work, go through each one.

I deleted Installsheild and its in my recycle bin(didnt fully get rid of it). I try to reinstall my Linksys card but when I put in the CD, it said I need to remove the driver to reinstall this, so I went to go delete the Linksys Program, but when I hit install I got the same error. "The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be lauched. The system cannot find the patc specified." Do I need to delete it entirely out of my recycle bin or am I doing something else wrong?

And Bonyoldoc, Im not understanding what you mean by Linkspeed, where would this be found at?

Disregard. I reread your question and just now realized you are wireless. D'oh! My bad.

Re: Limited or no connectivity/ Unable to connect to DCHP server. Urgent Help!!!!

Hey alomose,
check the DHCP configuration on your wireless router. if you can 't do it.
Then just re configure the wireless router. Also see the ip range of DHCP.
thanks
