54 MB/s, but it's down to 150 kb/s
Well I don't get it. It says my internet speed is at 54 MB/s, but when I try to download things, it's no more than 150 kb/s. It's like that on my PC and Mac. I use Airport Extreme and ZyXel Prestige 600 series. I've tried sitting right next to the router, but nothing helps...
any ideas? :P |

Re: 54 MB/s, but it's down to 150 kb/s
I believe that you are suffering from nothing more than "as implemented" normal behaviour. What version of the WLAN standard does your equipment comply with? With the help of this forum (see my posts), I discovered that the actual throughput of a 54Mbs 802.11 a/b/g connection is much lower than the connection bit rate (54Mbps). What I found in the end is the 802.11n (which is still not finalized) provides a much improved throughput. In my case, I implemented an 802.11n wireless adapter on one of the pc's in my home and it made a huge difference in throughput. I did not have to change my wireless router to 802.11n. For all the details, search for my posts on this subject.

Re: 54 MB/s, but it's down to 150 kb/s
I think you're confusing your ISP speed with your wireless connection speed. If you have a 1.5mbit DSL account, 150mbytes/sec downloads are about right for that level of service. This has nothing to do with the speed of the local network connection.
