At one of the branches of my work, a fellow employees computer (all computers there are Windows XP Professional) is unable to connect to the web for what appears to be a few reasons.
It says the network cable is unplugged even when it is indeed plugged in. However, if you remove it and put it back in a few times it will finally detect it but then say it has limited or no connectivity, and gives you a 169 based IP address. And also gives that "You're not connected to the network and are now working in offline mode" message. I noticed her network cable is in pretty rough shape, so I grabbed another network cable from another computer and swapped it, even trying a different port in the D-Link router, still with no luck. I ended up taking the tower back to my home branch and hooked it up, and it was detected and online without a hitch. Does this sound like a router setting I need to look at in the other branch? I'm confused here and really could use some advise. I have all admin access and whatnot to everything they have, so anything I may need to check is available to me. |

Re: Network problem. All computers connect to the internet except ONE. Help :(
it may be thaty the router is only 54 mb/s for wired (54 mb/s for wireless is perfectly fine though) usually this speed will only support 2 computers even if it has 4 ports and says on the box it will support 4 internet connections
how many computers are on this router? |

Re: Network problem. All computers connect to the internet except ONE. Help :(
Let's see this for the problem computer and also one of the working ones.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key: Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands. NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
