Adding wireless router to wired network
I am having problems adding a Netgear WPN824 wireless router to an existing wired network. The internet modem is a StarSmart modem. It is connected to a Linksys BEFVP41 4 port router. That router, in turn, is connected (LAN port to LAN port) to a CISCO EZXS88W. I can just plug the router into a wall LAN connection and be able to access the internet on a wireless laptop. I want to be able to configure the wireless router. I can not access it. The default IP address given for it is the same as the Linksys and that is what comes up when you type it in. I have tried various cable routings (crossover to linksys, direct to linksys) to no avail. I have also tried to access the NEtgear router typing http://www.routerlogin.net &r routerlogin.com. That only takes me to Netgear's website. What can I do to access the router?

Re: Adding wireless router to wired network
No problem.
Assuming you are running from cable modem into the Linksys you can connect the other router in the network. What you need to do is the following: 1. Log into the wireless router when it is not connected to the network, suggest using a wired connection. 2. Change the wireless router base IP address to 192.168.1.250 3. Turn of DHCP, then save the settings. 4. Then plug the wireless router into your current network using the LAN port, leave the wireless router WAN port empty. 5. Unplug the cable to the computer you configured the wireless router for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in. You now have a wireless access point with a 3 port switch. You should then be able to log into the wireless router at 192.168.1.250 and configure your wireless network as needed. JamesO |
