Networking Help Please, Detects but can't find wireless networks
I had recently done some work on my laptop, my friend had put two windows on my computer because i was having a lot of problems. So i was slowly transfered from one windows to the other (I was moving and he didn't have time to format it). It was working really well, i had the internet, but not the right service packs to get messengers working. So i went and installed them, and shortly after that i noticed that my computer would detect networks but no longer display them.
It was alright for a little while, i wasn't taking my lap top anywhere but home, and it was still connecting to my home even though it wouldn't display it. but when i started leaving the house with it and counldn't connect to any networks because I wouldn't see them, I was starting to get aggitated. So I over wrote the drivers with the original ones I had saved and ones downloaded from the website, nothing. I uninstalled them, then reinstalled them, nothing. I actually lost my home network because it couldn't remember it. So no internet on my laptop now. I tried to manually 'set up networks'. It detects the signal, actually picks up the signal, but says there's no connectivity, when i ask it to repair, it says it can't renew my IP. It still detects the networks but it won't show them to me, and if i connect the internet directly to my laptop it works, but that doesn't really help. All the other laptop are connecting to the internet, so it's my laptop. I got rid of the other windows on my laptop, so i can't double check if that one is still working. Is my only option formatting and I hope that works? Or is there anything you can suggest? Here are my specs: ISP: Cogeco Digital BroadBand by RCA Model #: dcm425 D-Link WIRELESS Router Di-624 I don't know about the connection type, but there is a password on it I use XP on all the computers And my browers is Explorer my laptop is my HP Pavillion zd8000 Thank you, Ashley Here is the DOS Stuff: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. Re: Networking Help Please, Detects but can't find wireless networks
Does this connect using a wired connection? If so, have you disabled all encryption and MAC filtering on the wireless router to see if that allows a connection?

Re: Networking Help Please, Detects but can't find wireless networks
I'm honestly not sure if it does or doesn't. It seems to know it's there when I manually tell it to find it, and it will 'connect' it just always has limited or no connectivity. That still wouldn't explain why it let's it connect to the internet on my sisters laptop nor why it did connect me up until I uninstalled the driver.
I could try disabling it, if you tell me how, but that doesn't solve my problem. As soon as i leave the house with it, it won't be able to identify any other networks. |

Re: Networking Help Please, Detects but can't find wireless networks
I'll repeat, does it connect using a wired connection?

Re: Networking Help Please, Detects but can't find wireless networks
That's what I mean.
![]() Are you saying that you can't connect to any wireless networks with this machine, including wireless hotspots that have no encryption?

Re: Networking Help Please, Detects but can't find wireless networks
Nope, can't connect to any wireless. just straight into the modem. I could until i unistalled my internet driver, but it was just connecting to the 'pre-programmed' in ones (ones i had been on and already had passwords to). It will detect the networks, but will display none of them.

Re: Networking Help Please, Detects but can't find wireless networks
I think I'd install the latest version of the wireless drivers for the machine. Also, are you using WZC or a 3rd party wireless client to manage the wireless network?
Check your Services are Started on all PCs:
Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic (or perhaps manual).
