Intermittent internet connection
I have recently started encoutering problems with one of my computers connecting to the Internet. It will make a connection but as soon as I try to enter a web site it disconnects and I am unable to re-connect.I use a Zoom ADSLX5 router with ethernet connection. I have renewed all connection cables reset router and checked my ISP connection all ok as I am using my other computer at the moment to send this message. My OS is XP Home Edition SP3 I have tried connecting with Firefox, reset IE7 to original settings all to no avail. Sometimes I find that disconnecting the router for a few minutes gives me back my connection but it soon reverts back to type. I have also tried connecting with my firewall and AVG Anti Virus turned off silly I know but I am willing to try anything. Anyone help.

Re: Intermittent internet connection
Did you try changing the port on the router to a known working port? If so, you're left with something on the machine. It could be the NIC getting flaky, hard to know.
Let's see this for the problem computer. Try these simple tests. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key: IPCONFIG /ALL PING <computer_IP_address> PING <default_gateway_address> PING 206.190.60.37 PING yahoo.com Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. <computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. <default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Thank you for your reply. I have carried out the PING test and all seems well. I copied it and pasted it into a word document but for some reason when I go advanced and into manage attachments when I hit the upload button it refuses to access my documents where the file is stored. shipboard. |

Please find attached the resuls of the PING test, I am sending this from my other computer because as previously said the affected computer did not allow me to upload it. I have ran virus and antispyware scans because I have a feeling that something is affecting my internet connection. The scans showed nothing. I ran an online scan and that also come up clean. I would appreciate your thoughts on this as I am running this computer through the same router and telephone connection without any problems. shipboard. |

Re: Intermittent internet connection
You can post it directly into a message, attaching documents just creates more work for us to read the posts. If you followed the instructions exactly, you could just post it into a message.
The fact that you connect properly with another computer indicates it's not the ISP or your network. Can we see this after it disconnects. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command: Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command. IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Thank you for the message I followed your instructions regarding posting but unfortunatly the computer will not allow me to paste into your message or copy, download, upload, copy to my memory stick or disk, it also refuses to delete e mails. I recently posted regarding overheating in my computer and justpassingby dealt with my query and come to the conclusion because it was only one item it should not be a problem. If you think this overheating could be the problem I will repost in the correct forum. shipboard. |

Re: Intermittent internet connection
If the computer is overheating, I'd clearly address that issue first! You need to have a reliable platform before you start debugging software!
