PC finds network but won't connect after pass.

Hello everyone, first post so apologies if it's in the wrong section - answer in the sticky etc etc.

I have a PS3 and a laptop connected to my wireless network fine, but I've recently baught a Wireless Adaptor for my PC (It's a old one so it doesn't have a ethernet port, now running XP)

The adaptor is all very well and installed, when I search for network it finds it 96% or so, when I put is the WPA or have you, it just doesn't connect - That is when using the Windows Network Connection, I'm not sure about the Netgear one and I've tried my ISP one and it says something about make sure the router is close enough to the PC? It's right next to it.

I looked on another thread and it asked for details, so here goes.

I live in the United Kingdom.
My ISP is Virgin Media.
My modem is a Motorola SB5100 SURFboard Cable Modem.
My router is a NETGEAR Wireless-G Router WGR614 v9.
I am trying a wireless connection.
I'm not sure about the encryption used, I'm sure it's WPA (My Playstation3 connects to the same network using WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK no I'm no expert but that means it must, right?)
It is a Windows XP-Prof PC, and I know it has connected to a different wireless network before in the previous house using a wireless adaptor.

Any help gladly recieved!

If you remove the encryption on your wireless network, can you connect? That is always a good way to test the potential connectivity between your PC and the router to make sure the adapter's working correctly and the router's accepting the connection. let me know how that works!

Funnily enough, when I went to try that - It suddenly connected and has connected ever since - Must have just took a while to connect.

All is fine now, but when I turn my PC on it takes about 5-10mins to 'Scan' and connect to my network, by using the NETGEAR connection method.
