Wireless Connection Missing
I use a Belkin USB Network Adapter to connect to my desktop PC in another part of my house. On saturday night it was working fine but when i turned on my laptop on sunday morning the wireless connection icon in my system tray was gone and the icon in my Network Connections folder had also disappeared. I have tried running Create a new connection which puts me through to the Network Setup Wizard which tells me I have two connections disconnected. My LAN, which I don't use on my laptop, and my missing Wireless connection. How do I reconnect it or setup a new connection? I have downloaded updated drivers from the belkin website but this hasn't helped.
Thanks in advance. Andrew |

Re: Wireless Connection Missing
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc
Please respond to all the following steps.
Let's see this as well. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command: Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command. IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Wireless Connection Missing
Hi, Thank you both for your help.
After I posted my question I rebooted my Laptop and the wireless connection Icon has reappeared. It still was disconnected but by opening Belkin Wireless USB Utility it connected and the internet worked for about 2 minutes. Then a page popped up from Virgin Media my ISP saying that because I use a belkin router I have to update my firmware to solve a problem they have with my brand of router.I Have updated my Router Firmware now I have the wireless connection showing on my laptop but am unable to connect to wireless network. I've pasted IPCONFIG from both my computers in case there is a problem with my router. Thanks Andrew Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. Re: Wireless Connection Missing
Does the laptop connect using a wired connection? What version of Windows do you use on the laptop?

Re: Wireless Connection Missing
My laptop connects when I plug it into my modem directly using my LAN connection. I use Windows XP on both computers involved. The Belkin Wireless USB Utility says it is connected to my router but my router isn't connected to the internet, but my desktop PC goes through the router and connects to the internet fine. The wireless connection has gone from my network connections folder again as well.
Thanks Andrew |

Re: Wireless Connection Missing
What is the make/model of the modem and of the router?
When you search for wireless networks, do you see any available?

Re: Wireless Connection Missing
I have a NTL 250 SACM Modem, model no. E08C007. My router is a Belkin Wireless G Router 2.4ghz-802.11g, model no. F5D7230-4. No I don't see any wireless networks when I search.
Whilst Writing this I have turned on my laptop and the wireless connection icon is back in my Network Connections folder and the wireless utility says it is connected. The only problem is when I try to repair my connection it is unable to renew my IP address. The wireless utility says: DHCP status: Enable Current IP: 169.254.181.116 Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway: 169.254.181.116 DNS Server: Blank Don't know if thats of any use to you. Thanks a lot Andrew |

Re: Wireless Connection Missing
If the network connections appears and disappears, I'd be looking at hardware or drivers. Try reloading the drivers for the wireless adapter first.
The IPCONFIG results you're getting are telling you that you're not connected to any network.
