Slow Looking Up/finding Site Www... Persistant Problem, browsing issues..

Hi,

I have a minor issue with my internet. Whenever i start up firefox or internet explorer it takes around 10 seconds to look up/find the site www.... After the website has loaded my surfing speed is fast but if i leave it IDLE for 2 minutes and try to look up another site, the problem starts again.
I have already tried changing dns servers like opendns and others but the problem still remains. I have had both cable and dsl and the problem is the same for both. Im thinking it is related to some settings in windows xp and not firefox or internet explorer.

-I have windows xp sp2
-Im connected directly to my modem, no routers
-I have spybot and spyware blaster and have already cleaned out my system
-Antivirus software has already checked my system and it appears clean, i also have it disabled to see if it is interfering with my internet but the problem still remains
-all/any site will require me to wait while it looks up the domain (google, yahoo, msn etc)
-Im not downloading anything with any type of p2p program. just net surfing.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

UPDATE: well i think i have solved the problem. I've uninstalled both Fsecure antivirus and this other program called Hamachi and my browsing issues have ceased!

I suspect Hamachi was the culprit, I've had issues with it before.
