Wireless Internet Randomly loses connection but still says "connected"

Hi im new to this forum so bear with me plz

Im currently using a Netgear DG834G wireless G router
I have 4 laptops that connect wirelessly to the wireless router, 1 of which runs vista and the other 3 run xp sp2.

They can all connect to the router through a wired connection perfectly and access the internet with no problems at all using a wired connection, and they can all also connect wirelessly to the router perfectly and access the internet however one of the laptops running Xp randomly loses connection but still says connected with excellent signal strength on the taskbar, at this point all web browsing fails and internet explorer gives its could not load page error and all web base programs disconnect and so forth

The only way to resolve this is to reset the wireless lan switch on my laptop to disconnect and reconnect to the router which takes like 10 seconds and the internet resumes back to normal
This is very frustrating as it interupts web based programs and downloads and etc
I really dont think its anything to do with my router because all the other laptops never experience this problem even when connected at the same time

The laptop that experiences this problem is a Sony Vaio PCG K115S and uses a LAN-Express AS IEEE 802.11g miniPCI Adapter with the latest drivers

When i type in ipconfig/all, and when i ping my router in command prompt this is what it shows

You mention "web based" programs, do other applications like messenger services and the like remain connected and functioning when this happens?

everything requiring an internet connection stops functioning, messenger services sign out and nothing remains connected

by the way above when i said "this is what it shows when i type in ipconfig/all" and when i ping my router my connection is still on at this point, sorry for not making that clear

When it fails, please do this.

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

IPCONFIG

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

i recently did the following in commandt prompt also, as i saw it as a suggestion on another thread however that has not solved the problem either

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog

Actually, the stack reset may help here, hard to say.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2/SP3.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands.

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.

Have you tried a wired connection to see if this is not simply a wireless issue?

Note that you are masking any symptoms using manual configurations for the network connection. That will result in it always indicating a connection. Try configuring for DHCP and see if we can figure out what's really happening.

Select Start > Settings > Network Connections.

Double-click the Connection icon of the connection you wish to modify to open the Local Area Connection Status window.
Click the Properties button to open the Local Area Connection Properties window.
Click to highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Click the Properties button to open the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window.
TCP/IP Properties window, IP Address tab
Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
Select Obtain DNS server address automatically.
Click OK to return to the Local Area Connection Properties window.
Click OK to return to the Network Connections window.

The thing is the problem has been ongoing since before I started manually configuring the connections, the only reason i started manually configuring the settings was because the Netgear ip address reservation tool wasnt too good, and i needed to forward some ports for some programs specifically for this laptop...but as i said prior, the problem has been ongoing way before i manually configured the network settings

Not sure if this is relevant but this is the only laptop that has Mcafee antivirus and firewall installed and i was wondering if at all the problem could be linked with that but even when i disable my firewall the problem continues

Try uninstalling everything McAfee and see if that helps.

I decided to uninstall my wireless drivers and reinstall them again and that did the trick...so im guessing it was just a case of faulty/corrupt drivers...
