Re: Received error code: 0x80070035 network path not found

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

  • If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
  • For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
  • Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
  • If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Received error code: 0x80070035 network path not found

Thanks John, here's my problem

I have three PC's on a network at home. In the old days with XP the network was fine and all PC's could talk to each other as long as sharing was set up right. I now have Vista on all the PC's and I can not access my wife's PC from any other machine. From her machine I can access all the other machines. My son's PC and mine can share data with no problem. I have followed the MS information on networking with Vista and to my eyes all machines have the same settings.

When I go to network & sharing I can see my wife's PC and when I hover over it I see an IP address, mac address, etc. When I click on her PC in the map I get a "Windows cannot access //WifePC" If I expand the error dialog box I get the error I originally found in the forum. When I do the diagnose option it tells me it can't diagnose the problem.

So here's the info you requested and thanks for looking at this

ISP = Cox cable
Cable modem = Motorola SB 4200
Router = Belkin F5D7230-4
Wife's PC is wired connection & son's is wireless
OS on all machines is Vista SP1

Here's the command line info

Re: Received error code: 0x80070035 network path not found

Can you ping the wife's machine by name? This sounds like a firewall on her machine blocking the access, try disabling ALL the firewalls for a test.

Re: Received error code: 0x80070035 network path not found

You made that seem so easy! I've been banging my head against the wall for weeks on this and poof, now it's all better.

Just fyi, I have McAfee installed on all the machines. For whatever reason on her machine something must have been set wrong or maybe McAfee is honked up. When I tried to run the security center to turn off the firewall it would display the splash screen but then nothing happened. I had to uninstall McAfee to make it work.

Speaking of McAfee, my ISP says they are running McAfee for me and I don't need to keep my subscription up on my PC. Does that sound right to you? I don't see paying $300 bucks a year for the subscription if I'm getting it included in my cable service.

Thanks for all your help!!!

I would always have antivirus on each of your PC. AVG provides a Free antivirus program for personal use. This article also goes more into security and other antispyware/virus programs.

I'd just use something like one of the free AV products, I have used Avast and AVG Free here with good results.
