[SOLVED] Netgear router and Modem won't let VOiP work

I have a Netgear DSL modem DM111P and a Netgear router WNR854T Gigabit edition. I have the network set up and running with internet access no problem. The linksys phone adapter will connect but the phone has no dialtone (phone lights are off). I've already rebooted everything in the proper order, with no success.
Both modem and router are running DHCP, and I think that might be the problem. However, if I disable it on either device I no longer have an internet connection.
The modem connects PPPoE and the IP range is 192.168.0.1 - .254
The router is 192.168.1.1 - 254 The DSL adapter is assigned 192.168.1.3

Do I need to change the IP addy on one of the devices?

Thanks in advance!
Liana

Re: Netgear router and Modem won't let VOiP work

The Linksys phone requires DHCP to be enabled on the router to connect, I doubt that's the issue. What is the exact model of the VoIP adapter in question?

The Linksys VoIP is PAP2T

I have the same adapter with ViaTalk, it works through my router without a hitch. It does require DHCP on the router to obtain an IP address.

I also have Viatalk. The other router i had installed worked flawlessly. This new modem and router seem to have an issue with both of them assigning IP addys maybe?

Re: Netgear router and Modem won't let VOiP work

I suspect a firewall issue on the new router. You will have to check which ports are needed for viatalk (maybe john can tell you?) and then forward these ports to the VOIP adaptor.

I set up port forwarding for the adapter and a static IP, but that didn't help

Re: [SOLVED] Netgear router and Modem won't let VOiP work

Okay, I logged into all three devices. In the Linksys PAP2T I changed the gateway to that of the Modem and turned DHCP on. Voila!!

I was going to mention that no ports need to be forwarded, but I guess you know that now.
