Extremely Wierd Problem
Ok, this is the first time i've ever posted here but I have a VERY wierd problem and I am completely stumped.
I have a wireless network set up in my house so that Two laptops, my PS3, and two desktops are connected together through a D-Link Router. My ISP is Comcast and I have a cable modem from them... This is a little bit hard to explain so let me try naming everything and explaining how they are connected..... Laptop A (The one I am using) Wireless Connection Laptop B Wireless Connection PS3 Wireless Connection Desktop A Wireless Connection Desktop B (MAIN COMP w/ Ext HD) Connected through an Ethernet Cable Now the problem is that everything that is connecting to the internet via wireless, is working perfectly fine, but when I try to connect with Desktop B via the ethernet cable, It cannot connect to the internet or the network, i believe it cannot get an IP address. My first thought was that the router is screwed up in some way, so i took it out of the equation and connected Desktop B directly to the cable modem via ethernet cable. No Luck My second thought was that there was something screwed up with the settings on Desktop B, so I tried to connect via ethernet cable directly from the cable modem to Laptop A, and then afterwards, Laptop B.....I could not get a proper connection with either of them. No Luck My third thought was that there was something wrong with the ethernet cable, I tried three others and still No Luck My fourth thought was that one of the jacks on the cable modem, or the cable modem itself was screwed up, but then I figured that could not be right and the modem should be working fine since I can still get an internet connection when connected wirelessly through my router. I have absolutely no idea where else to look, it can't be the settings right? because I cannot get a connection on three different computers through an ethernet cable. It can't be the ethernet cable because I tried three different ones and none of them worked. It can't be the modem because it still sends a perfect signal when connected to my router. So when I connect through a wireless connection, it works fine, but when i connect with an ethernet cable i cannot get an internet connection. HELP ME PLEASE! I'm stumped and the dumbass comcast "technicians" keep telling me to restart my computer, unplug the router, unplug the modem, rinse and repeat......over and over and over and over again. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Extremely Wierd Problem
When you connect a different device to the modem, you MUST power cycle the modem.
Connect a working computer to the router using a cable connection and post this. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command: Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command. IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
