Re: wireless LAN conected...but is it?
Let's see this when you have an issue.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command: Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command. IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: wireless LAN conected...but is it?
Well, the fact that you have a manual configuration of your IP addresses prevents Windows from knowing when you're connected, which is why it always says it's connected. Why are you manually assigning the IP addresses?

Re: wireless LAN conected...but is it?
Hi john
this is the Windows config when it did that stupid 5mbps thing "not working"(i think its the same) Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\Housedog>ipconfig /all Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : XXXX Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection 3: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.13 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.17 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 202.74.207.10 202.74.202.100 The reason we have set our network manually is so 1 we don't get hacked and 2 if there is a problem on the network we can find it easily via the router log files thanks housedog |

"The reason we have set our network manually is so 1 we don't get hacked"
If you're behind a router, you won't get hacked any differently with a manually assigned IP as opposed to a DHCP assigned one. You'll need to change the PC to "Obtain an IP address automatically" and then post the results here as a first step to understanding what's happening. |

Re: wireless LAN conected...but is it?
hello
having a few problems changing my router and other wan adapters to DHCP so i think I'm going to have to leave it sorry guys i manged to get a bit beater screen shot of the connection image![]() as you can see it has sent lots of packets but not received any you can also see it says it is connected but only at 5.5 mbps but the signal strength is full you can finally see how long it has been connected for ..like 60mins........what is going on?????? loli possible think it may be the drivers now but I'm not sure is there a program or something that can check if i have the right drivers or clear out any drivers that might be confusing it? thanks housedog |

Re: wireless LAN conected...but is it?
With a manual IP address assigned, it's impossible to see what's going on there. I don't think you have any connection. Note that the status will say connected all the time for a manual address.
