Re: Here is one that stumped me

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Re: Here is one that stumped me

Thanks for guidance John.

I use a Acer Travelmate230NLCi for some time with winxp without much difficulty.
This is with 512 ram, 80gb hdd, combo drive (later i fixed a dvd writer) with wireless.

Recently it fell down from a person's hands and the dvd combo started problems in reading. Many files on drive c got corrupted and i had lost the installation of OS from the machine, it stopped booting. It could not boot from dvd drive too as the reading capacity was also lost. Therefore I replaced dvd combo with a new dvd writer and tried to recover OS by booting through a bootable cd but did not sucess in recovery.
Ultimately had to re-install OS with the help of friend and started LT. There were so many problems of regaining same status which were solved one by one but the last and least "wireless" could not be fixed yet. The wireless lights in the front panel is went off since the fall. Pressing the switch is not making any difference.
I presume the fall could have resulted in disconnection of some wire in side the unit.
I have already tried several wireless drivers, utilities from the manufacturer's site but none worked so far. That's why i have a doubt on a physical damage or a hairline fracture over the board in side.
Any more presumptions?
I want to avoid opening the pc again.

Re: Here is one that stumped me

Well, since it's obviously physical damage, I can't see much else than opening it up again.

Re: Here is one that stumped me

i wanted to check and try all other chances prior to opening again.
i still hope for some driver to make it work again because all other problems are solved during a month's struggle after the accident.
Ofcourse the last chance is what you suggested.
