You may need to install an access point in place of your wireless router. Have used Cisco access point, just find a convient location, run your cable there and install it. We have several installed here and they provide coverage for our facility.

concrete or not he should be able to access wireless as long as he is in range. Or of course you can just install a router directly in his office.

wireless access point is the best way to go, we have 3 in our office & they provide access to our entire floor. And yes, concrete walls WILL affect the signal strength

Re: is this even possible? networking guru needed
Concrete affects the strength but it's the metal in the concrete that destroys the signal .. along with Mobile phone antenna's on roofs .. microwave ovens in kitchens, heavy machinery with motors that create electrical noise and don't forget all those wireless mice and keyboards etc that are becoming popular ..
If you go wireless you may have to have several channels spaced over different units in different locations to provide overall coverage.

Re: is this even possible? networking guru needed
@ Done Fishin, I knowed that about the metal but figgered I didn't need to add that, I was just clarifying that the signal WOULD be affected
& why is it Done instead of Gone ??? LOL ( because if you were gone you wouldn't be here??? )

Re: is this even possible? networking guru needed

Make sure on the access point that you set it up for encryption and non-broadcast SSID, this will help prevent people on the street or around the building from being able to hop into your wireless network and use it.

Re: is this even possible? networking guru needed
Is that a hub or a switch?? if it's a switch - fine .. but a 24 port hub must be a big bottleneck for your network .. Thats a big collision domain too!

Re: is this even possible? networking guru needed
You have to remember that a hub, by nature, will forward all information out of all ports except the port that the information came in, effectively dividing your network speed to each host by the number of hosts that have to recieve the data. A switch on the other hand is a bit more intelligent and will hold in a "look up table" the destination host(s) according to which ports they are to be found on. This makes them faster and more efficient, sending data only to the port that requires it. In the event that a host is not known it will quickly search and find it then place the corresponding information in the "look up table" before sending the data to it's destination ...
please note the explanation has been simplified in case the reader knows less than I do .. for those that know more than I do .. please do not expand on the theme .. it's been explained for the network newbies only !

Re: is this even possible? networking guru needed
look for the manufacturers name and the model number. Then use google. One of the reports it gives will take you to a good description .. you may even find them on e-bay being sold off with a description .. used wisely the Internet is a great Educator
