Advice on networking a printer wirelessly
Hello,
At home we have an OKI printer which has an RJ-45 port but no USB. We have just bought a wireless router and created a network. I am trying to find out ways to now network our printer wirelessly. In the shop a man told us to get a wireless print server and attach this to the printer and I believe this will work. Are there any other ways to connect the print wirelessly that would involve a print server or is this the only solution? Why would a printer need a print server? Is it to pool print jobs? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!! |

Re: Advice on networking a printer wirelessly
well the printer needs to have a way to have the info sent to it. its not gunna just take hte info out of the sky and print. so ull need a print server to recieve the info sent wirelessly and then the printer can print it through that. unless u wanna buy another cheap comp and put a wireless card and get that computer networked and share the printer over the network. ALOT more hassle than its worth.
id go with the wireless print server option, they are relativity cheaper too and easy to setup if you have all the info about ur network |

Re: Advice on networking a printer wirelessly
thanks, that is probably what I will do then. Just a print server for a two man operation in my house sounded a bit over the top for our printer but if that is what it takes and there isn't a cheaper option then I guess that is what we'll do.
Thanks again |

Re: Advice on networking a printer wirelessly
If your 2 PC's can "talk" to each other over wireless, it can be direct connected to one of the PC's & shared out in that manner.
I have mine set up that way at home.
