Internet Suddenly Drops Out

I'm on a desktop (Windows XP) which is connected to our home's wireless network. I am using an hField Wi-Fire adapter, and about every 5 minutes, the internet will just drop out, but both the "Wi-fire Connection Manager" and the Windows Wireless Icon or whatever say I am still connected. I've tried pinging 192.168.2.1 after this has happened, and it comes back with 100% packet loss. This forces me to restart to get my internet back.

The Wi-Fire connection manager has an option called "configure using Windows Zero Configuration" or somesuch, and I've tried switching to that after it drops out, but I still can't connect. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the program, doing a soft reset (no settings changed) on the wireless router, then a hard reset (have to redo settings). Neither one has fixed my problem.

I may try uninstalling the program but leaving the drivers, and see if that does anything. Please help me out here.

Re: Internet Suddenly Drops Out

Some things you can try here.
  1. For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
  2. For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
  3. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
  4. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.
