EEK! Limited Or No Connectivity Issue!

As of yesterday I can't seem to log into my home internet DSL connection via either a wireless router or wired LAN. Both blurt the same monotonous and frankly tedious message 'LIMITED OR NO CONNECTIVITY!!11'.

Having checked my XP version, I seem to have SP 3..I've heard about such problems occuring after the installation of a new service pack, but I couldnt have updated windows, as my windows updates are disabled..

My desktop works fine with the same ethernet cable, both through the router and wired.

I have tried statically assigning IP, DNS and default gateway addresses, but to no avail.

I've been googling this for hours and have attempted to troubleshoot, again to no avail..

[BELOW IS THE IPCONFIG of my working desktop]

Physical Address: 00-1D-0F-B4-2D-90
IP Address: 203.81.207.142
Subnet Mask: 255.255.254.0
Default Gateway: 203.81.206.1
DHCP Server: 203.81.204.6
Lease Obtained: 8/8/2008 3:01:29 AM
Lease Expires: 8/8/2008 3:31:29 AM
DNS Servers: 203.81.204.2, 203.81.204.10, 203.81.204.3
WINS Server:

MY OWN LAPTOP HOWEVER, which gives the error message has some sort of 169.254.xx.xx ip with a different subnet mask.

I REALLY AM STUMPED, SO HELP WOULD REALLY BE APPRECIATED.

Re: Limited Or No Connectivity Issue!

what I would try is resetting the router to factory defaults via the GUI interface by logging into your router. I had that same problem and I think it comes down to router not able to get the mac address of the network adapter trying to enter the network. Also try uninstalling your network adapter via device manager and reboot. If you're on XP it should pick it back up the driver from the XP driver DB and install and then give it try

But it won't work on LAN connected without the router either!

Re: Limited Or No Connectivity Issue!

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

What country are you located in.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
What is the expected Upstream/Downstream speed for your ISP Connection?
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make and model of your computer.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms? Have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way? Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?

If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
