Trying again on wireless connect problem

A friend(no longer available) set wireless up for me several months
ago and it worked fine. A few weeks ago,due to a virus issue I
had, I did a format and reinstall of my Winxp Sp2, then re-set up
the wireless with the d-link CD used before.

Now, it connects ok, but after about a minute or so use,
it wont load any page, even tho the connect speed might show
as "good."

To me, something I'm doing on the winxp reinstall (have
done it twice) has caused the problem, but I dont know what
to look for. The reinstall was done with two new CD's
from Dell.

I would add that my secondary internet connect is dialup
and, it also is quite slow now, plus other annoying web page issues.

The cd is a Rangebooster G/usb 2.0 adapter D-link.
I have extremely little knowledge of wireless and/or
their problems.

What info do you need me to provide in order to correct
this difficulty?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Re: Trying again on wireless connect problem

Instead of using the CD drivers, get the latest one's from the internet and see if that helps.

Re: Trying again on wireless connect problem

Dell shows 33 driver files....applications,audio,bios, cd/dvd,chipset,commnication,diagnostic,IDE controllers,
Input dev drivers,Network,Sys Util, etc,etc,etc.

Are you suggesting I download every one? ???????

Doing these d/loads on dialup will take forever.
(ie: just 1 file of 3 in applications is 33 mb by itself)

Would you please pinpoint drivers I should d/load?
Reminding again...I'm not that knowledgable on computers,
especially regarding wireless.
TY

It is wise to keep up-to-date with all the drivers your system requires. There may be critical fixes, added features or even tweaks that stabilize the device's performance. Good luck!

Re: Trying again on wireless connect problem

I also add that the two CD's I used to do this reinstall came from Dell only 12 days ago.

Re: Trying again on wireless connect problem

AGAIN....I fully understand that updates are important, but you're not addressing my
questions...which drivers do I update??? Some of these drivers on the Dell site
are dated 2006.
By saying "good luck", are you ending my help session?

Re: Trying again on wireless connect problem

if you bought the USB adaptor seperatly then it won't be on the Dell website. You need to go to d-link and get the usb adaptor drivers there.

Re: Trying again on wireless connect problem

Ok..I wasn't sure which drivers were originally being referred to as I only got "get them from the internet"...so, didnt know if you were talking dell to fix my possible reinstall problem
or drivers to fix the wireless.
I just checked d-link...most current driver available is from may,2008...my wireless
using this d-link cd was originally purchased and set up last month, but I'll give it a whirl.

Re: Trying again on wireless connect problem

np. Just remember that the drivers included on the cd's are usually the first one's released along with the product release and most manufacturers don't bother updating these drivers on the CD .

Re: Trying again on wireless connect problem

The driver updates seem to be helping a bit..I'll know more in a few days as, in the past, my wireless would work ok for a couple days, then start to fizz out.
Thanks
