Connecting Linksys Router To Security First System
Hi. I was hooking up a Security First DVR (it's a digitial video security system with cameras) to a WRT160N Wireless Router and for some reason it won't connect. When I went into the security systems settings to get the IP address for it, it says 192.168.001.101. When I went into the router's admin function for port forwarding, etc to open up the ports it doesn't allow me to change or add the settings to that IP address. Am I correct in guessing that 192.168.001.101= 192.168.1.101?
The reason the security system is connected through the router is so when someone isn't home it can still be monitored remotely (in other words we can still see what the cameras see as if someone were still at home). If someone knows about the Security First systems that would be great. The system is supposed to allow you to connect via the internet. The only reason we hooked it up via the router is because the home computer's ethernet port was being taken up by the cable modem so we got a wireless router so the computer could still connect to the internet and also add the security system. I looked at the security system's manual but it doesn't have proper directions for set up. Right now the computer, the cable modem and the security system are all connected to the router via the ethernet ports. |

Re: Connecting Linksys Router To Security First System
Well, the real issue here is going to be the port forwarding. Does the security system have a static IP address assignment? You could try putting the controller in the DMZ, which would basically forward all the ports to the public IP address.
You mention the cable modem connected to the port, obviously it has to be connected to the WAN/Internet port, and the clients (computers, camera controller, etc.) are connected to the LAN/Network ports.

Re: Connecting Linksys Router To Security First System
Actually, the DVR apparently is set by the router. Yes, the cable modem is connected to the internet port while the computer is plugged into port 1 and the DVR security system is plugged into port 4.

Re: Connecting Linksys Router To Security First System
maybe the router is not allowing you to setup port forwarding on the address because it's DHCP set. First give the DVR a static address and put this address as an excluded address in the router setup. (under DHCP)
