Problem Adding Laptop To Network
This is a small office setup. All computers on the network are running XP.
Our main office computer serves as a server so that we can print through the printer/copier. We have one other desktop that accesses that printer through the main office computer. We all access the internet through a dsl. My laptop is wireless and accesses the internet through the dsl. I need for my laptop to access our local network through the dsl. I've tried running a couple of things in XP, but it hasn't hooked me up. I really need to be able to print on the big printer. So, how do I access our local office network? |

Re: Problem Adding Laptop To Network
Well, first you tell us more about the network.
Make/model of the "DSL" router and/or modem. Is the "main" office computer a real server, or just a machine running XP and sharing the printer? Let's see this for the machine with the printer, and for your machine. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key: Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands. NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Problem Adding Laptop To Network
The DSL router is Netopia.
We have 2 desktops attached to it via cables. 1 of those attaches to the printer via a USB cable. The second desktop is able to print through the Netopia router via the 1st desktop My laptop connects to the internet wirelessly, but is unable to connect through the 1st desktop to the printer. That is what I need to do. Desktop 1........... Router............ Desktop 2 I I Printer Here's the result of the command line prompt: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.
