Trying to connect 2 pc's, for the Internet and File sharing!

I've read alot of threads already, and have learned a few things. I have an HP with Winxp SP2 and a Dell Dimension 8200 which is also running WinXP SP2.

I have a wireless adsl gateway, but i'm not hooking them up wireless, they are right beside each other.
Its a SIEMENS Gigaset SE567, is this a modem and a router?
I do have another router to use if necessary, its a D-Link Model WBR-1310

The HP has an Intel 82562V 10/100 Network Connection
The HP has a Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC

Do I need to use the D-Link Router or is the SIEMENS going to work for me?
Tried the network connection wizard and had internet on both for a short time.
Any help would be much appreciated,
Thank you

The Siemans is indeed a router with an ADSL2 modem built in so you won't need the D-link. Just plug in your computer and laptop into the yellow etherent ports and away you go!!

Re: Trying to connect 2 pc's, for the Internet and File sharing!

Hey Lazareth, ty for the quick reply. I dont need network adapters because of the ones I listed on each cpu. Am I correct in saying that?

So I just plug them both in to the router, and plug the phone line into the router?
Then run the wizard on each cpu, will I have to change IP addresses and such on the cpu's?

And they are both desktop pc's, if that makes any difference at all.

Thanks again!

Yes just use the network adaptors you have already stated. Follow the instructions in the manual for the Siemans to get it all up and running first.

PS. If you need a username and password to connect to the internet, then you will have to add these to the Seimans router. Refer to the manual for this.
