Smart DNS!?!?
Guys I heard recently that there was a new DNS called smart DNS? Basically the idea that I heard was that lets say you setup a mail server with a dynamic public address instead of a static public address, smart dns would be setup so that the TTL would refresh every 30 seconds, so that if it noticed the dynamic public address to change, it would update the A record? Is this true? Has anyone heard anything about this or similar to it?
Thanks Brandon |

Re: Smart DNS!?!?
It's been around for years, many folks have free sites that will do this. I use DynDNS here to allow me to find my FTP server when I'm on the road.

How long does it take for it to up date the servers? Doesn't it take awhile for the rest of the internet to realize you have changed your Ip address? |

So, generally to update a record... don't you need to contact your SOA to change that? Is you are you're own SOA and are hosting your own name servers I can understand setting up a DHCP server to do all of this, however, if you have Comcast lets say, they require you to contact them to manually update the reverse dns record. How can you setup a DHCP server to do this? |

Re: Smart DNS!?!?
Actually, it appears to do it pretty quickly. I'm sure that part of it depends on the specific DNS server the person connecting is using. I've never had a problem with it, and I've used it for years.
