Wireless Access Point Help

Hi guys, hoping someone can help, I'm trying to setup a WNR834B wireless access point with my Next G wireless internet modem.

If I plug the Next G modem directly into my ethernet port on my laptop, it auto configs and connects to the internet straight away.

However, when I plug it into the netgear AP, the internet light illuminates, and network properties shows Internet Connection Connected but I cannot browse the net.

I have reset the access point and tried connecting but nothing, I suspect it is a DNS issue, but I have no idea how to fix it. The netgear router is using default settings, DHCP, no WEP or WPA, Get IP from ISP on internet port.

I'm obviously doing something wrong, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Re: Wireless Access Point Help

have you tried power cycling the modem after you have connected it to the AP? Each time you connect the modem to another device, you have to power cycle for 30 secs and then switch it back on.

I think we need to know exactly what the make/model of all the network equipment is. It sounds like you're trying to connect a WAP to a wireless modem/router. Are you trying to bridge wirelessly, or are you running a cable between the WAP and the router?

OK, WAP router is an 882SEU model, unsure of brand, the AP is Netgear WPN834B.

I'm connecting WAP modem to AP Internet Port via ethernet cable.

I have tried using DHCP relay on the WAP modem, I have used my ISP DNS servers in the router, local machine etc. WHen I use the ISP DNS servers, it works for the first 2 pages then it stops. If I run flushdns it sometimes fixes it for another 2 pages then stops again. I have tried using Open DNS servers but same problems.

Also see if there is a firmware upgrade for your AP.
