Choosing new router help!!!

Hello everyone!

I'm going to be moving to a new place soon and i wanted to get a new router for my cable modem. It seems like all the reviews i've read for the routers are all Negative!!! I wanted the N-routers but i don't know which one is good reliable and fast! I'll need a modem that supports gaming and has a decent range! for upstairs and down!

But any suggestions would be great!!

thanks,

David

Re: Choosing new router help!!!

I am going to recommend the Linksys WRT54G since Ive used them before and I had good experiences with them. Also check out the d-link gaming router and I believe the color of the router is black. Check out newegg for the hottest deals.

Re: Choosing new router help!!!

I've owned both of the above. The linksys is great because linksys made the firmware open source a while ago so you can downlowd firmeware to do all sort of things like turn it into a network bridge etc.

The D-link gaming router is a little less impressive. The interface was good and it worked well but it didn't have anything 'special' that made it a gaming router. It comes with this thing called gamefuel that is meant give priority to gaming traffic. It just doesn't make a difference. Well, not enough to be noticed and to justify the extra price for it.

I reccomend the Linksys WRT54G or another linksys.

Re: Choosing new router help!!!

Take a look at the WRT310N from Linksys. It has 4 10/100/1000 ports and is wireless N that has good coverage. I've got several deployed and providing you don't have is buried under stuff or in a room that gets real hot, it's fine.
