One computer in network slow
Hi,
I have two computers on a cable connection, using a Linksys NR041 router (rather old). The Internet connection on one computer is always fine, but the connection on the other computer is often a bit slower, and many times will not connect to the Internet at all (won't load pages in any browser, won't run Internet-based applications). One thing I've noticed is if I unplug the power cable from the router, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in, then both computers connect fine, but eventually the quality of the connection on the problem computer deteriorates and the whole situation starts anew until I do it again. Any ideas on what the problem could be, and what a permanent solution might be? Last edited by Anonymity : 07-15-2008 at 10:51 AM. |

Re: One computer in network slow
I'd suspect malware on the machine that slows down.

Re: One computer in network slow
Definetly see if there are new firmware updates for your router on the linksys website.

Re: One computer in network slow
Well, that's the problem with my router; firmware updates are nonexistent.
I was thinking that could be the problem, which would mean I need a new router. Basically I'm just trying to make sure so I don't waste money on a new router when the old one wasn't the problem. Last edited by Anonymity : 07-15-2008 at 11:06 PM. |

Re: One computer in network slow
Directly connect the modem to the slow computer, power cycle for 30 seconds and then switch back on. Surf for a wee bitty and see if you get the same problem. This should elimanate the router as a problem if slow down occurs again.
